When you make a decision and people say "best of luck," it indicates their acceptance of that decision. However, if they say "may it be for the best," they are expressing a meaningful reaction to a decision that they do not find to be particularly correct. The latest Medium Term Program (MTP) was met with this response by 99% of Turkey.

There was an important detail in the Central Bank's recent Monetary Policy Meetings announcement: "The gap between the expectations of economic actors and our targets has widened."

Let us be reminded that after the June 2015 elections, a government could not be formed so the elections had to be re-held on the 1st of November. Credit rating agencies had advised Turkey to do the following prior to the latest rating increases: - Replenish foreign exchange reserves - Maintain budget discipline - Have a realistic monetary policy - Continue to fight inflation

Some International Financial Institutions have been warning Turkey against fully liberalising the swap channels. Apparently, foreign investors are not yet ready to say goodbye to Turkish treasury bills and government bonds and they want to continue making profit through carry trade.

Honestly, I was rather disappointed by the inflation rates released last week rather. People responsible for managing the economy in this country had given hope to everyone when they first took office because they had spoken rationally hence gained the support of the business world and the market actors. But today, they are distorting the CPI figures.

Not a day goes by without someone talking to me about their "projects". I am tired of saying those people that many of those projects are actually just an idea and they need planning and a budget in order to become an actual project.

As expected, Türkiye’s Central Bank decided to keep interest rates stable. However, it was new of them to impose a growth limit to control the increase in foreign currency loans. I think they finally realized the danger after the stubbornly unyielding warnings of many economists, including me.
