Aldous Huxley wrote his ‘Brave New World Revisited’ in 1958. It is impossible not to be surprised by his prophetic fantasy and the shocking analysis of propaganda and persuasion in the remote future. In his book, Huxley explains that social media, which was not even a concept back then, will be an important tool that politicians will use to manipulate humanity.

For people who, like me, experienced the Marmara Earthquake of 1999 and were involved in search and rescue and reporting activities in the field, it literally was like a nightmare coming back to haunt us, causing us vivid recollections of the bad memories of 1999, which killed tens of thousands of people and destroyed 10% of the country’s economy.

The world is suffering from the side effects of soaring inflation. Each country is trying to find solutions to tackle these problems, either sometimes by referring to an economics manual, or at other times by repeating past practices; sometimes by combining the two.

During my conferences I give all around the world, I try to draw attention to certain risks. “Ordinary citizens cannot grab opportunities arising out of the crises that are caused by particular risks.” To clarify further, let me explain the medium and long-term risks from my own perspective.

Liberalism and democracy have been moving away from each other since the 1990s, when capitalism and liberalism came to a crossroads. Recent research shows us that the number of countries of the world ruled by liberal democracy and full autocracy is gradually decreasing. On the other hand, the number of people governed by "electoral democracy" and "electoral autocracy" is increasing.

This year, a series of panels were held at the OECD's headquarters in Istanbul to discuss the development of the private sector in the region. I delivered a speech on behalf of Topkapı University. Normally, my audience woul expect me to talk about numbers, but numbers mean nothing without talking about the philosophy of them.
